You’re at that point in the distance where I can’t say
Whether you’re walking toward me or walking away
The evening mist drifts in as your figure fades
But I can still hear your voice, I still know your name
Where have you been
I’ve been waiting so long, Evelyn
Waiting for you to come home again
I don’t know where to begin, Evelyn
I was a kid when we met, I’m a kid in your eyes still
So many times I felt you there at my window sill
While I lie awake in the half light you sleep in a strangers room
As mist gathers along the skyline and on the river pale green and blue
Where have you been
I’ve been waiting so long, Evelyn
Waiting for you to come home again
I don’t know where to begin, Evelyn

Days are getting shorter, winter’s drawing in
And I can hear your laughter disappearing on the wind
And sunlight is bleeding into the night
I know you think I’m leaving, I think you may be right
You cannot change the paths we take
Back to where we begun, say what’s done is done
So open the book now and burn it page by page
Because there is nothing left of me today
And it feels like we’re failing, but at least you know we tried
These moments drifting like ashes in the light
You cannot change the paths we take
Back to where we begun, say what’s done is done

Take me to wear the sea
Cuts shapes into the land
Where dark waters reach
And shake hands with the sand
We’ll play among the ruins
Of where castles once stood
Just because things always change
Doesn’t mean they always should
Hold out your hand
Grab what you can
Every dying thought begs to be remembered
Drifting with these shifting sands

"On this night
I won't take your excuses"
I hear her cry
Through the floor
Carpet burn
And tears beneath the mattress
My hands are tied
And so are yours
Now all the things you refuse
Are coming 'round to get you
So let me out
This house is a burden
I cannot bear
Anymore
Now all the things you refuse
Are coming 'round to get you
Can't forget what she said
"Somethings have always been broken
And I am one of them
You cannot mend"
Now all the things you refuse
Are coming 'round to get you

The moon leaps low
Into the rivers flow
And now there’s nowhere
Left to go, as yes turns to no
She’s playing dead
The sky turns from blue to red
There’s blood on his hands
Or is it in his head, he washed them ‘til they bled
Buried bones
Beneath broken homes
You can never run too far
From where the wild things are

When one day at a time
Is just one day too much
You had it, had it all
And now you've had enough
As time keeps dragging by
Slept two days straight, awake all night
The plans you made have gone to waste
Dreaming of lost summer skies
Sirens at daybreak sound
Like a distant birds sad song
In your head, in your head
You're barely holding on
As time keeps dragging by
Slept two days straight, awake all night
The plans you made have gone to waste
Dreaming of lost summer skies

The children play against a grey sky
As shadows lengthen in the evening sun
You’re not here, neither am I
How can we both be wrong and both be right
I couldn’t see
I close my eyes and it just seems
That if I lose or if I win
Me minus you equals nothing
Rainbows and kites, balloons and play fights
And the last sigh of summer’s breath
If what’s mine is yours and yours your own
Then what do I have left, unless I'm wrong
I couldn’t see
I close my eyes and it just seems
That if I lose or if I win
Me minus you equals nothing

As I slept last night, the deepest sleep of all
I dreamt that we were kissing behind the garden wall
And I took you down the lane, beneath the spreading vine
Put my hands around your waist and pressed your lips to mine
And you said "I am yours"
In the springtime, and after the fall
I went to the place you used to wait for me
By the old rope swing, beneath the maple tree
And you took me to your room as the evening sky drew close
We lay in the light that fell through your window
And you said "I am yours"
In the spring time, and after the fall
But now my love you’ve flown, just as seasons come and go
Do you dream of me, do you sleep alone
Because when I awake to find my bed is bare
I close my eyes to dream and again you’re there
